Paraguayan Police Relies on OKM Technology for Subsurface Detection
The Paraguayan National Police is strengthening its forensic capabilities with modern German technology: Two of our OKM Gepard GPR 3D ground radar systems will now be used for subsurface investigations.
The devices were provided through our local distributor Detector Paraguay. In addition to delivering the radar systems, Detector Paraguay also conducted on-site training and instruction for the police personnel to ensure effective use in the field.
Advanced Radar Technology for Complex Investigations
The two OKM Gepard GPR 3D systems enable the police to visualize irregularities underground, including:
- buried objects
- cavities, tunnels, and bunkers
- underground structures such as pipes or cables
Advanced Radar Technology for Complex Investigations
The system operates using radar technology that transmits signals into the ground. These signals are reflected by subsurface structures and received again by the system. The collected data is then visually processed, allowing users to identify hidden structures beneath the surface.
With a potential detection depth of up to 40 meters, the OKM Gepard GPR 3D is suitable for a wide range of applications – from forensic investigations to geophysical analysis.
Practical Applications
The National Police is using the radar systems within its criminalistics department and plans to deploy them nationwide. Possible applications include:
- detection of illegal tunnels, e.g. near banks or prisons
- support in missing persons investigations
- analysis of suspicious ground structures
A specific use case is already in focus: The technology is expected to assist in the search for remains of missing persons.
The importance of this new technology was also highlighted at the highest level: The Paraguayan police presented the GPR to the President to demonstrate their capabilities and potential for future investigations. This underscores the growing importance of advanced detection technology for national security and investigative work.
Training and Expertise as Key Factors
The successful use of this technology strongly depends on the expertise of its operators. Therefore, police personnel received intensive training. Our distributor Detector Paraguay supported this process on-site and ensured that the systems are used correctly and that the measurement data can be properly interpreted.
OKM Technology in International Use
The deployment in Paraguay once again demonstrates how versatile OKM detectors are used worldwide – from archaeology and security applications to forensic investigations. With our solutions, we contribute to making hidden structures visible and generating valuable insights that often remain undiscovered using conventional methods.
